If you want a theme for your house party but don't know what you want then we have a list of themes that you may like.
What types of parties are there?
Inner Child
This is a children's party for grownups. Play adult version of games and serve junk food. If you have the space you can rent a big ball pit or bouncy castle.
Animals
People dress as jungle animals.
Diet Starts Monday
Serve junk food and sweet things at this event.
Beach party
Dress up like you're at the beach. Have fake plastic trees around. You might like to serve punch and tropical cocktails.
Hawaii

Havana Nights

Palm Springs
A party which can be (but not always) by a pool and guests wear classic summer styles from the 50s and 60s.
Pool Party

Under the Sea
Dress up like sea creatures and mermaids. You can serve sea food. You could hang up blue sheets.
Nautical, But Nice
Dress up like sailors and pretend you're on a yacht.
Circus Gala
Contact some improv performers and tell your guests to dress to impress.
Rock n' Roll Party
Dress up like rock stars.
Grammy
People come as their favorite musicians/DJs.
Celebrities
People come as any celebrity.
Trash TV
People come as their favorite reality TV star.
Ready Player One
This is a party for gamers. They can come as a character from a video-game.
Victorian-era Gothic
Items present at this party are candles, candelabras, skulls, taxidermy, black flowers, old frames and furniture People typically come as Victorian ghosts, maids and butlers.
Decade themed
This would be a party focusing on a particular decade. People will dress like they're going to a party in that decade and you'll play popular music from back then.
Time Travelers' Ball
People dress like they're from a previous era. They could dress up like ancient Egyptian pharaohs, famous historical figures, or pop icons.
Bubbles & Bowties
People come in bowties and formal wear. You can serve champagne and sparkling wine.
Musical Magic
Watch a musical and guests can come as a character from that musical. When you're done watching you can do a sing-a-long or Karaoke.
Hamptons Garden Party
Typically people play tennis and wear white at this party.
French-Chic Picnic
A party with red-checkered picnic blankets, baguettes, cheese, and champagne.
Southern BBQ
Hold an old-school BBQ with Southern classics like cornbread and baked beans. Play games like Frisbee or Cornhole.
Zombie Apocalypse
Dress up like zombies and hold it somewhere creepy.
Heroes & Villains
Some come as heroes and others come as villains.
Aliens & Astronauts
People come as either aliens or astronauts. This is perfect for fans of sci-fi.
Let The Freedom Ring
This is a U.S.A. themed party that may feature flags and American hot dogs. I have written a separate article about how to have an American house party.
London Calling
This could be a British themed party that could feature "Keep Calm" posters, and plenty of traditional pub foods.
Alternatively you could do a tea party fit for a Queen.

Club Carnival
This party could have rides, amusements, games of chance, sugary treats, show bags, and eclectic prizes. You may consider renting some items if you have the space and can afford to do so.
Art Attack
Guests do art on some paper or a wall that will be painted over afterwards.
Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Everyone wears hats similar to the ones in Alice In Wonderland. Have bright colors around. you could serve food like tarts and sandwiches.
If it's a party for adults you could serve alcoholic drinks in tea cups.
Locavore Luncheon
This typically features food exclusively from local farmers.
Ice Cream Sundae
This could be a great idea for those hot summer afternoons. Have different ice cream flavors and toppings and have guests make their own sundae.
Tequila Tasting
A party where people taste different brands of Tequila.
Wine tasting
People drink (and taste) different wines.
Future Féte
Get tarot card readers, clairvoyants, or vintage-style fortune-teling machines to tell the rich futures.
Legoland
Get giant Legos from a party supplier and enlist the help of an expert Lego builder to keep your guests entertained.
Sports themed
A party usually thrown on a big game night and guests may wear the shirt of the team they're supporting.
Poker night
Play poker and drink.
Parties for specific times of the year
New Year's Eve
People usually throw parties on New Year's Eve. Guests countdown to midnight and sing "Auld Lang Syne".
Christmas
Guests can be surrounded by Christmas decorations. Eggnog and Christmas treats can be served. This is thrown near December 25th.
Halloween
Typically this would be a costume party thrown near October 31st.
National holiday
Throw a party on your national holiday celebrating your country.
